Art therapy

The Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses the visual arts as a means to restore or improve mental health and emotional and social well-being. It is a type of psychotherapy integrated into the generic concept of art therapy , as it uses different artistic disciplines to accomplish it.

It should be noted that the term art therapy has been defined subtly differently by various international associations, such as:

The Spanish Professional Association of Art Therapists (ATe) defines art therapy as the “psychotherapeutic application of the artistic process based on the importance of the relationship between the user and the art therapist. It essentially uses the means of the visual arts to promote significant and lasting changes in people, enhancing their development and evolution as individual and social beings.”
The British Association of Art Therapists defines art therapy as “a form of psychotherapy that uses artistic media as its primary mode of expression and communication.”
The American Art Therapy Association defines art therapy as: “an integrative mental health and human services profession that enriches the lives of individuals, families, and communities through the active creation of art, the creative process, applied psychological theory, and the human experience within a psychotherapeutic relationship.”
